One Energy Ahead for the North and Baltic Seas

04/26/2018

Last week ENERTRAG took part in the BWE Wind Energy Sector Day (Windbranchentag) Schleswig-Holstein in Husum and the Future Conference for Wind & Maritime (Zukunftskonferenz Wind & Maritim) in Rostock, where we discussed innovative energy ideas, approaches to solutions, and the necessary decisions to ensure that the Energy Transition advances in the North.

We thank the organizers of the events for the wonderful organization as well as the participants for the professional exchanges, and we look forward to the next steps together.

3rd BWE Wind Energy Sector Day (Windbranchentag) Schleswig-Holstein in Husum

On the 18th of April, more than 500 participants from the wind energy sector as well as municipal and regional politics took advantage of the opportunity to exchange views on solutions and political developments within the sector at the Wind Energy Sector Day in Husum.

Aside from the major developments in sector coupling and grid management, particular focus was placed on region-specific topics such as regional planning, wind energy moratoria, and proximity regulations. In addition, Robert Habeck, the Energy Transition Minister for Schleswig-Holstein, clarified at the event that the Federal Government’s 2030 target to derive 65% of electricity from renewable energy is entirely achievable. However, to reach that goal, a consistent change in speed in the expansion of renewable energy will be needed across all sectors and beyond individual state borders.

7th Future Conference for Wind & Maritime (Zukunftskonferenz Wind & Maritim) in Rostock

For two days, some 200 professionals from more than 10 states discussed the current challenges facing the Energy Transition. The Energy Minister for Mecklenburg-West Pomerania, Christian Pegel, highlighted in his welcome speech the importance of acceptance and innovation in the future expansion of renewable energy.

For sector coupling projects, he would like to create a sort of “experimentation provision,” whereby special levy exclusions or other funding for particularly innovative proposals could be given. Furthermore, real applications were presented, for example an electric-powered vehicle developed by DHL, which will be available for purchase by other businesses. There will also be a fuel cell version of the vehicle, which will roll out next year. Our hydrogen Mirai however is already in service and was met with great interest on the part of the participants.
