ENERTRAG inaugurates Bonnhagen I wind farm in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania

ENERTRAG yesterday celebrated the commissioning of the Bonnhagen I wind farm together with representatives from politics, local communities and industry. The new site comprises four modern Vestas V162/6.0 wind turbines with a total output of 24 megawatts. At the same time, the newly built UW Roxin-Bonnhagen substation was connected to the grid. From there, the electricity generated is fed into the grid via a 110 kV line operated by e.dis.

The inauguration ceremony took place on 9 December 2025 in the ‘Dörphus’ community centre in Stepenitztal-Börzow and was attended by numerous guests.

Strong municipal partnership and direct participation

The Bonnhagen I wind farm is a successfully implemented project that exemplifies the partnership between ENERTRAG and the surrounding communities. A voluntary municipal participation scheme in accordance with the EEG was agreed for the local and neighbouring communities. This will generate total annual revenues of around £145,000, which corresponds to a sum of almost £3 million over 20 years.

Citizens also benefit directly: with Stadtwerke Grevesmühlen, a regional partner offers a discounted green electricity tariff. ENERTRAG supports this tariff for all residents of the municipalities of Stepenitztal, Grieben and Bernstorf with an annual electricity bonus of £100.

Outlook: second construction phase already approved

A second construction phase with three additional Vestas V172/7.2 wind turbines is planned for 2026. Approval was granted in September 2025. Municipal participation has also been agreed for this expansion, including another electricity bonus of €100 per year per connection/household.

Greetings from politicians and the region

Ines Jesse, State Secretary for Economic Affairs, Infrastructure, Tourism and Labour in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, emphasises not only the importance of the energy transition, but also the municipal participation:

"With today's symbolic commissioning of the Bonnhagen I wind farm, we are setting an important milestone for the regional energy transition and for a sustainable future. This wind farm is not only an important project for climate protection and security of supply – above all, it is an example of how citizens can actively participate in the energy transition. The project impressively demonstrates that together we can take major steps towards climate neutrality – technologically, economically and socially.

Thanks to broad local participation, numerous communities and people in the immediate vicinity of the wind farm in the region have taken advantage of the opportunity to participate in the project through participation agreements and a discounted electricity tariff, and to benefit directly from locally generated renewable energy. The wind farm thus not only strengthens regional value creation, but also promotes transparency, trust and acceptance.

We would like to thank everyone involved: the community, the citizens, the municipal partners and the project developer ENERTRAG, who have realised this project with commitment and vision. With the Bonnhagen I wind farm, we are making it clear that the energy transition is most successful where local people are actively involved in shaping it."

Robert Vogt, regional manager at ENERTRAG, comments:

‘This project is a prime example of successful participation by citizens and local authorities in the region. The involvement of local people is a key factor in the success of the energy transition.’

Insight into the wind farm and village festival for the region

During the event, invited guests were able to visit the wind farm and the substation. A shuttle service enabled direct visits to the turbines; the wind farm was symbolically put into operation by cutting a red ribbon and cutting a cake.

This was followed by a public pre-Christmas village festival in front of the community centre, to which all citizens were invited. In cooperation with the local fire brigade and the Börzow cultural association, ENERTRAG offered free bratwurst, mulled wine, drinks and cake. The Grevesmühlen municipal utilities provided information on site about the green electricity tariff and the wind power bonus.
