ENERTRAG Celebrates Major Milestone in Ghana

Last Wednesday, ENERTRAG reached a significant milestone as we celebrated the inauguration of our first Wind Measurement Campaign in Kwahu East, Eastern Region, Ghana. Eric Yankah, Director of ENERTRAG Ghana, and Dr. Tobias Bischof-Niemz, Member of the Executive Board responsible for International & Technology Projects, were joined by local dignitaries, representatives of the Ghanaian authorities, and delegates from the German institutions in Ghana.

Dr. Bischof-Niemz emphasized ENERTRAG's long-term vision for the Ghanaian market and the pivotal role of renewable energy in driving the growth of Ghana's energy system and economy. With an established presence in Ghana, ENERTRAG is proud to be developing the country's first integrated green hydrogen and power plant. The facility aims to produce green fertilizer for the domestic market, reducing dependency on imports and stabilizing supply for the local agricultural sector. Furthermore, the plant will be able to supply reliable renewable energy to power the growth of the Ghanaian economy.

Why Ghana? Ghana stands as a beacon of stability in West Africa, a region poised for significant growth in population, economic output, and energy demand in the future. The Met Mast is designed to provide on-site data to refine project design and confirm the initial satellite-based assessment of wind speeds. With the data collected, ENERTRAG will be able to model future energy output with great precision.

The Ghanaian Fertilizer Market: While the agricultural sector is a major driver of economic activity and growth in Ghana, the country currently imports 100% of its fertilizer from abroad. By establishing domestic fertilizer production, ENERTRAG enables the substitution of imports, mitigating the risks associated with fluctuating world market prices and exchange rates. Furthermore, domestic production will provide a stable and predictable supply, offering planning security for the Ghanaian agricultural sector.

We are excited to continue driving innovation and contributing to a sustainable future. Stay tuned for more updates!
