Verbundkraftwerk Anklam

Using energy where it is generated.

The Verbundkraftwerk Anklam is a pioneering flagship project for the Anklam energy region. At its core is the production of green hydrogen through electrolysis, with a planned total capacity of 240 megawatts in two expansion stages. Once completed, the facility will be capable of producing up to 20,400 tonnes of green hydrogen per year. At the same time, the project will make a significant contribution to climate protection by saving at least 182,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually.

The hydrogen produced on-site will be further processed into e-methanol – a versatile and easily transportable energy carrier. This not only results in climate-neutral energy, but also creates tangible regional added value. Existing infrastructure will be smartly integrated: third parties will have access to e-methanol via Consun Beet Company (CBC), and direct hydrogen supply via pipeline will also be possible. The project is also intended to support the regional heat transition by utilising the process heat generated during production - an important step towards a sustainable energy future for the region.

By flexibly using wind and solar power, the Verbundkraftwerk Anklam also contributes to grid stability. The connection of hydrogen customers via pipelines on a trans-regional level opens up further opportunities – for a climate-friendly future that reaches far beyond the region itself.

"Hydrogen is an indispensable building block for the energy transition and offers solutions for decarbonising various sectors, from heavy industry to long-haul transport. By linking directly to our nearby wind and solar farms, this electrolyser will not only produce green hydrogen, but also promote further industrialisation in the region and increase local value creation."
