Substation

Substations are central hubs in the electricity system. They collect electrical energy from various generation plants, adjust the voltage and feed the electricity into the higher-level electricity grids.

In the process, the energy generated is transformed from one voltage level to another – for example, from the medium voltage of the generation plants to the high-voltage level of the transmission grid. Only in this way can electricity be transported efficiently over long distances.

Substations also play a central role in the ENERTRAG Verbundkraftwerk®. This is where the electricity flows from wind and solar plants converge. At the same time, they form the interface between the Verbundkraftwerk and the public electricity grid.

Through intelligent control systems, storage facilities and the connection to hydrogen plants, a central energy hub is created: renewable electricity can be fed into the grid, stored or used for hydrogen production – depending on what the energy system currently requires.

In this way, substations ensure that energy from many individual plants is consolidated into a stable and controllable overall system.

How it works

Substations collect electrical energy from various plants, transform the voltage between different grid levels and feed the electricity into the national grid.

Benefits in a combined power station

  • Collection of electrical energy from wind and solar power plants
  • Connection point to the public electricity grid
  • Transformation between different voltage levels

A distinctive feature at ENERTRAG

The substation utilises an EZA controller developed by ENERTRAG for the efficient management of mixed energy sources. In combination with battery storage, an electrolyser and power reconversion, this creates a central energy hub with direct injection of hydrogen into the EUGAL pipeline.
