Farming and Renewable Energy, Working Together
Agri-photovoltaics for Nechlin: Renewable Energy and crop farming on the same land.
EU funding notice
Funded by the European Union and the State of Brandenburg (ERDF/JTF

What is agri-photovoltaics?
Agri-photovoltaics combines agriculture with the generation of renewable energy on the same land. Solar modules stand above the ground or in rows, allowing crops to grow beneath and between them.
The project demonstrates how agriculture and solar energy can share one site. This dual use supports regional food production and climate action in Brandenburg.

The mission:
The agri-photovoltaic plant at Bahnhof Nechlin uses a single-axis tracking system. It covers around two hectares of arable land west of the Berlin–Stralsund railway line. Wheat grows between the rows of solar modules while the plant generates Renewable Energy.
Project profile
Technology: PV Tracker – PV Agrisolar (DIN SPEC 91434)
Total rated capacity: 0,876 MWp
Number of modules: 1.414 units
Location: approx. 2 ha of arable land west of Bahnhof Nechlin
CO₂ savings: approx. 400 tonnes per yea
Distance: at least 1,000 metres from residential areas
Agricultural use: wheat cultivation between module row
Grid connection: underground cable route to the Wärme Nechlin substation
Project status: Commissioning in 2026
Was macht Agri-PV besonders?
- Dual land use: The single-axis trackers follow the sun and leave enough room to grow wheat between the module rows.
- Climate protection with yield: The plant saves around 400 tonnes of CO₂ each year and supports the energy transition without permanently removing arable land from agricultural use.
- Regional roots: An underground cable connects the plant to the Wärme Nechlin substation, supporting the local use of the electricity generated.
