Battery Storage Bertikow.

Quiet, safe, reliable: For a more stable power grid in the ENERTRAG Verbundkraftwerk® Uckermark and a secure supply in the region.

What exactly is planned?

A battery storage facility is to be built at the Bertikow substation as part of the ENERTRAG Verbundkraftwerk®. From 2027, this will ensure that electricity from wind and sun is better utilized. Thanks to the storage system, no energy will go unused and the grid will remain stable.

Briefly explained: What is a battery storage system?

In principle, a battery storage system is a rechargeable battery - like the ones you have in your smartphone or laptop - only much larger and safer. While the small battery in your pocket keeps your cell phone running, the battery storage system ensures that energy from the wind and sun can be used at any time.

If there is more energy available than is currently needed, the battery storage unit charges itself. If more power is needed, it feeds the energy back into the grid. This creates a buffer that balances out fluctuations and keeps the supply stable at all times.

Profile of the project
Location:
Municipality of Uckerfelde, district of Uckermark, Brandenburg
Battery:
Lithium iron phosphate (LFP)
Technical data:
200 MW output, 800 MWh capacity
Grid connection:
Bertikow substation (380/110 kV)

Safe technology

Lithium iron phosphate batteries are tried and tested, reliable and are considered to be particularly stable. In addition, their function in the battery storage system is constantly monitored.

Low noise

All legal limits are complied with or even undercut by up to 10 dB - the system is barely audible in everyday life.

No flashing or lights

The storage unit does not require any disruptive lighting and remains visually in the background - also thanks to a privacy screen.

A plus for the region. Good for the energy transition.

The substation in Bertikow is already a central hub in the electricity grid. With the new battery storage system, it will become a key element of the energy transition - with positive effects for everyone.

A stable grid means a secure supply

The battery storage system balances out fluctuations when more energy is needed, feeds the stored electricity back into the grid - and enables a reliable supply.

Benefits for the region

The storage facility also brings direct revenue to the region, e.g. through business taxes. This gives the municipality more money to invest in schools, playgrounds and community projects, for example.

Climate protection comes from the Uckermark

The battery storage system uses energy that would otherwise be lost due to curtailment, thus reducing the need for fossil resources. This is how the energy transition is being implemented - and the region is setting a good example.

"Battery storage systems compensate for fluctuations in the electricity grid and provide additional power when there is little primary energy available. ENERTRAG is committed to the development and implementation of solutions that combine economic efficiency and technological expertise."

And how does a battery storage system work?

A battery storage system stores surplus electricity from renewable energies and releases it again when it is needed. This helps to keep the power grid stable at all times, regardless of whether there is a lot or little wind or solar energy available at the moment.

Two scenarios:

Lots of wind / sun

If more wind or solar energy is produced than is currently needed in the grid, the surplus electricity is converted and fed into the battery storage system. The electricity is stored there as electrical energy in the battery cells.

Little wind / sun

On less sunny or windy days, the demand for electricity may be higher than the amount produced. In this case, the battery storage system steps in and feeds the stored energy back into the public grid via the transformer station. This ensures a secure supply at all times.
